Showcasing Stephen and Catherine's Choice - CureSHANK
I met Stephen and Catherine when they came to an Open House that I was holding. After chatting with me about my process for home buying, they asked me to help them learn about neighborhoods in Seattle and find a great home for their growing family. They were tired of corporate housing after relocating from LA. Not only did I introduce them to a neighborhood they hadn't considered, and help them buy their dream home, I was able to negotiate a sale for almost $70,000 less than the list price!
When I asked Stephen and Catherine which charity they would like me to support, they chose CureSHANK. A close friend's child was diagnosed with a SHANK-related disorder, so this is a cause close to their heart. The mission CureSHANK is to accelerate the development of treatments for SHANK-related disorders by identifying and funding projects that overcome critical barriers in successful drug development and coordinating scientific efforts to improve efficiency and speed in the field. SHANK protein deficiency-induced synaptic diseases are referred to as Shankopathies. The SHANK protein family includes three members: SHANK1, SHANK2, and SHANK3. Shankopathies are associated with autism, intellectual disability, schizophrenia, and other neuropsychiatric disorders, including Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS).
