Showcasing Chris's Choice - WHEEL For Women
Chris had been looking on and off for a condo over the pandemic. We considered Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond and Seattle. He finally decided he want the vibrant downtown life in Belltown. We found a newly updated roomy condo with a large balcony. He'll be able to walk to Pike Place Market, Seattle Center and downtown. There's even a pool for cooling down for the rest of summer.
When I asked him which charity that he would like me to support, he chose WHEEL for Women. He said, "This organization runs two low barrier women's homeless 24hr shelters in downtown Seattle. The people working and volunteering there have faced many challenges during Covid. One of my best friends works there and it is not an easy job. It takes a lot sacrifice and mental health to work there and I respect the people that choose to do that." What a great opportunity to be able to help our community in which we live!
The Women’s Housing Equality and Enhancement League (WHEEL) is a non-profit and non-hierarchical group of homeless and formerly homeless women working on ending homelessness for women in Seattle and King County. WHEEL is all about empowerment and action. WHEEL works to get women out of the places where they have been hiding, recognize each woman as an individual, and involve women in the process of improving programs and creating new programs for their own needs. WHEEL’s goals are to give voice and leadership to homeless women, to organize campaigns around increased services and safety for women, and to develop and support shelters. Since 1993, WHEEL has initiated many campaigns that have improved the lives of all women including improving shelter hours, establishing day programs, meal projects, and holding community gatherings.
