HOME OF THE WEEK: Pasadena Mid-Century Modern

I went down to Pasadena to celebrate my brother’s 50th birthday this weekend. I always love to tour open houses wherever I travel. This weekend I saw some great examples of old and new architecture. When I was deciding which open houses to go to, I was caught by this groovy mid-century that appeared to by untouched over the years. I took my niece Sonia and James along. Pulling up in the low-slung carport, the hanging globe lights were period-perfect. Sonia and I loved the golden-yellow front door (Metropolist brand color).

Inside, we loved the beamed roof and simple cabinets and sliders. After talking to the agent, Michelle St. Clair, we found out the house wasn’t in its original pristine condition, but had been a victim of severe re-muddling. Someone had desecrated it with marble columns and other various defilements over the years. The current owner spent the last year lovingly restoring this home to its former glory. They did a great job! I really wanted to relax in the back yard and walk barefoot on the cork floors. If you are looking for a sleek yet homey place in Pasadena, this is it!
